Kandahar, Fashion and Qayamat
Two of my Afghan colleagues, Aly and Hashim… were watching Dish TV… (We have, at our campus Dish TV connection, which has almost all Indian channels… and a panacea to our acute nostalgia and homesickness)
While surfing aimlessly, they stumbled upon Fashion TV… and to their bewilderment… they saw women parading in minis and micros… they were dazed… and remained dazed… till I arrived.
I asked… Aly! When is Fashion going to arrive in Kandahar…
Aly, an elderly gentleman, who has been an ex-Mujahideen, and has the most wonderful smile… with dimples on each side of his cheeks… smiled and said… Fashion wouldn’t arrive in Kandahar till Qayamat, the Day of Judgment.
Hashim couldn’t hold and quipped- if Fashion arrives in Kandahar… it would be the day of Qayamat….
I smiled… Kandahar, Fashion TV and Qayamat… aren’t everything related in a way.
